Ross is a small, quiet place in Audubon County, Iowa, in the United States. It is called an unincorporated community. This means it is a group of homes and businesses that is not officially a city or town.
History of Ross
Ross was first planned in July 1882. It was set up in a part of Leroy Township called Section 4. The community got its name from a local farmer who lived nearby.
Over time, several important places opened in Ross. A post office started in 1883, helping people send and receive mail. There was also a blacksmith shop, where people could get metal items made or fixed.
Ross also had a lumber yard, a general store for everyday needs, and a hardware store. A special building called the Ross Grain Elevator was built too. This elevator is now a historic site. A train station was finished in 1885, making it easier for people and goods to travel.
In 1902, about 55 people lived in Ross. By 1915, the community had two churches: a Methodist church and a Lutheran church.
