About Rosy Simas
Rosy Simas is part of the Heron Clan within the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) people. She is officially a member of the Seneca Nation of Indians. This heritage is very important to her art.
Rosy Simas's Career
Rosy Simas is a dance and multidisciplinary artist. This means she works with many different art forms. She is also the founder and artistic director of her own dance company, Rosy Simas Danse.
Choreography and Collaborations
As a choreographer, Rosy Simas creates performances for stages and art exhibits. Her work often blends dance with video, music, and sculptures. Since 2012, she has worked closely with French composer François Richomme. Together, they have created several pieces. These include We Wait In The Darkness (2014) and Skin(s) (2012). They also made Weave (2019).
In 2013, Rosy Simas created Threshold, a film with photographer Douglas Beasley. She also collaborated with Heid E. Erdrich on WEave:HERE in 2019. Rosy Simas has also worked with dancer Deborah Jinza Thayer. In 2016, Simas and Jinza Thayer performed together in 14 cities across the U.S. Their tour ended with a show at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota.
