Rotenburg is a district (called Landkreis in German) located in Lower Saxony, a state in Germany. The main town in this district is also named Rotenburg, often called Rotenburg an der Wümme to avoid confusion. The Wümme River flows through the district from the eastern side to the western side.

The Rotenburg district covers a large area of about 2,070 square kilometers (about 800 square miles). As of 2003, around 163,900 people lived here. This means there are about 79 people living in each square kilometer. The district uses "ROW" or "BRV" on car license plates.

* Bothel: This group includes villages like Bothel, Brockel, and Kirchwalsede. * Fintel: Here you'll find Fintel, Lauenbrück, and Stemmen. * Geestequelle: This group has villages such as Alfstedt, Basdahl, and Oerel. * Selsingen: Villages like Selsingen, Anderlingen, and Sandbostel are part of this group. * Sittensen: This group includes Sittensen, Groß Meckelsen, and Tiste. * Sottrum: Here you'll find Sottrum, Ahausen, and Horstedt. * Tarmstedt: This group has Tarmstedt, Breddorf, and Wilstedt. * Zeven: This group includes Zeven, Elsdorf, and Heeslingen. Zeven is also a town.
