About the Show's Creation
Roundhouse first appeared as part of the original SNICK shows on Nickelodeon in 1992. It stayed on the network until the end of 1996.
Buddy Sheffield and Rita Sheffield Hester created and produced the series. Buddy Sheffield used to write for the show In Living Color. Benny Hester, a music artist, was the music producer and also helped produce the show.
They named the show Roundhouse after roundhouse buildings. These are places where trains turn around to get on the right track. This idea fit the show's theme song, which said, "we can go anywhere from here." The stage for the show even looked like the inside of a roundhouse.
How Each Episode Worked
Each episode of Roundhouse focused on the "Anyfamily" and their everyday problems. The show was about 30 minutes long and filmed in front of a live audience.
Episodes were made up of different parts:
- Comedy sketches
- Dance routines
- Musical performances by the cast and the house band
After the story was finished, a cast member would say, "Reprise the Theme Song and Roll the Credits." Then, the cast would sing the opening theme song without music and end the show with a dance.
Music in the Show
All the music used in Roundhouse was written just for the show. Crystal Lewis and Shawn Daywalt were the main singers for many songs in the first season.
After Crystal Lewis left to focus on Christian music, Lisa Vale took her place. Later, Amy Ehrlich and Jennifer Cihi sang for Season 3. Natasha Pearce became the main singer in Season 4, but Lisa Vale also returned for that season.

Remembering Dominic Lucero
After the first season, cast member Dominic Lucero became ill. He left the show for treatment but came back for three episodes in the third season. Sadly, Dominic passed away on July 1, 1994, at age 26, while the fourth season was being made.
The very last episode of Roundhouse was dedicated to him. It started with the words, "This one's for our friend Dominic, who couldn't be here." Dominic had asked that his health not be made public, so the audience did not know he was ill. Even though he was not always on the show, Dominic's name and picture stayed in the opening credits for the entire series.
