Rovigo Calcio is an Italian football club. It is based in the city of Rovigo, which is in the Veneto region of Italy.

Club History

The Rovigo Calcio club was first started in 1893.

Rising Through the Ranks

In the 2005–06 season, Rovigo Calcio had a great year. They finished first in their league, called Serie D. This win meant they were promoted directly to Serie C2, a higher professional league. It was a big moment for the club, as they had not been in a professional league for 56 years!

The next season, in 2006–07, the team played in Serie C2. They finished 6th in their group. They were only two points away from getting a chance to play in the promotion playoffs. These playoffs decide which teams move up to an even higher league.

Challenges and Relegation

In the 2007–08 season, Rovigo Calcio finished 16th in Serie C2. This meant they had to play in relegation playoffs. These games decide which teams move down to a lower league. Rovigo played against Castelnuovo. The total score over two games was 3–3. Because Rovigo had finished lower in the league, they were moved down to Serie D.

However, the team was lucky. They were chosen to stay in Serie C2, which was then renamed Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. This happened because there were nine open spots in the league.

In the 2008–09 season, Rovigo Calcio finished last in their group in Lega Pro Seconda Divisione. This meant they were directly moved down to Serie D.

Refounding the Club

In the summer of 2011, the club faced some difficulties and was excluded from Serie D. This meant they could no longer play in any football leagues.

However, the club was refounded in 2012. Another local team, Lape Ceregnano, moved to Rovigo and changed its name. The new club became known as A.S.D. Rovigo L.P.C.
