Roya Nonahali (Persian: رویا نونهالی) is a well-known Iranian actress and director. She was born on February 13, 1963, in Tehran, Iran. Before becoming an actress, she studied painting. She started her journey in the world of acting on stage in 1984.
Roya Nonahali began her film career in 1987. Her first movie was The Beloved Is at Home. Later, she worked with famous director Mohsen Makhmalbaf in the film Marriage of the Blessed. For this role, she won a special award called the Crystal Simorgh for Best Actress at the Fajr International Film Festival. She also received the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Smell of Camphor, Fragrance of Jasmine.
In 2001, Roya Nonahali started acting in TV shows. One of her early TV roles was in Asleep & Awake. More recently, in 2019, she became a judge on a popular Iranian talent show called Asre Jadid. This show was created by Ehsan Alikhani. She continued to be a judge on Asre Jadid in 2020 and beyond.
