The Royal Bridge (in Spanish, Puente Real) is a cool bridge located in Badajoz, a city in Spain. It stretches across the Guadiana River.

Building the Royal Bridge

The idea for the Royal Bridge came from the Junta de Extremadura, which is like the local government. Workers placed the first stone on September 28, 1992.

This bridge is a special type called a cable-stayed bridge. This means it uses strong cables to hold up the main part of the bridge. These cables are attached to tall towers or pylons.

How Long and Wide Is It?

The Royal Bridge has a total length of 452 meters (about 1,483 feet). It crosses the river with three main sections that are 136, 88, and 32 meters long.

After crossing the river, the bridge continues as a viaduct. A viaduct is like a long bridge that goes over land, not just water. This part has six sections, each 32 meters long.

The bridge platform is 23 meters (about 75 feet) wide. It has two lanes for cars in each direction, making it easy for traffic to flow.

The Main Tower

The tallest part of the bridge is its main tower, called a pylon. It is made of strong reinforced concrete. This pylon stands very tall, reaching 81.20 meters (about 266 feet) high.

This tall pylon holds 28 strong cables. These cables are pulled tight and help support the bridge deck, keeping it stable.

When Did It Open?

The Royal Bridge was officially opened on December 23, 1994. After it opened, it quickly became the busiest bridge in the city of Badajoz. Many people use it every day to cross the Guadiana River.
