The Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club (RFBYC) is a special club for people who love sailing and boating. It is located in Freshwater Bay on the Swan River. This area is in Peppermint Grove, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia.
How the Club Started
The club began in 1896 with a group of friends. Aubrey Sherwood and Edward Keane were among them. Edward Keane's old home is now the club's main building.
The Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club was the second club in Perth to get a "royal charter." This means the British royal family gave them special permission to use the word "Royal" in their name. It shows the club is important and respected.
Friendly Competitions
The RFBYC has a friendly competition with another royal club, the Royal Perth Yacht Club. Each year, boats from both clubs race against each other. The winner receives The Governor's Cup. The Governor of Western Australia presents this special trophy.
