Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Royal Oak is a small place in Oregon County, Missouri, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county.

Royal Oak is located along U.S. Route 160, which is a main road. It's about five miles (or eight kilometers) northwest of a town called Alton. A small stream called Dry Creek also flows nearby, about half a mile to the east.

History of Royal Oak

Royal Oak has a short but interesting history.

Early Days and Naming

A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, was opened in Royal Oak in 1894. However, it only stayed open for about a year, closing in 1895.

Besides the post office, Royal Oak also had a church and a school. These were important places where people in the community could gather and learn. The area got its name, "Royal Oak," because there was a group of large, strong oak trees nearby. These trees were a special feature of the landscape.
