Her very first role was as a dancer in a show called Carmen Jones in 1943. This play was very popular and ran on Broadway for two years. Royce Wallace continued to appear in many theater productions throughout the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. One of her notable roles was in the musical Funny Girl in 1964.

Forming the Cambridge Players

In the 1960s, Royce Wallace helped start a theater group called the Cambridge Players. She was a founding member of this group. It included several other well-known Black actresses. Some of these actresses were Esther Rolle, famous from the TV show Good Times, Lynn Hamilton, who played "Donna" on Sanford and Son, and Helen Martin from 227.

Later in her career, Wallace mostly appeared in guest roles on television shows. She was seen on popular series like Sanford and Son, Barnaby Jones, The Paper Chase, Benson, Soap, and Quincy, M.E.. She also appeared in the miniseries Roots: The Next Generations. In one episode of Barnaby Jones called "Theater Of Fear," she played a character named Agnes.
