Ruben Nicolai (born May 8, 1975) is a well-known Dutch television presenter and comedian. He became famous as one of the comedians in the TV show De Lama's. He worked alongside Tijl Beckand, Ruben van der Meer, and Jeroen van Koningsbrugge in this popular show. Ruben has also hosted many other exciting TV programs, including Lego Masters and The Masked Singer.

Ruben Nicolai's Career
Early Career and Comedy
Ruben Nicolai started his career in comedy. In 2002, he won two awards at the Cameretten cabaret festival. He won both the audience award and the jury award. This showed his talent for making people laugh.
From 2004 to 2008, Ruben was a main comedian in the TV show De Lama's. This show was a Dutch version of Whose Line Is It Anyway?. In De Lama's, comedians made up scenes and songs on the spot. It was very popular, and in 2006, the show won the Gouden Televizier-Ring, a big TV award in the Netherlands.
Hosting TV Shows
Ruben Nicolai has hosted many different TV shows. In 2006 and 2007, he presented the quiz show Rat van Fortuin. In 2009, he won the Zilveren Televizier-Ster award for best presenter. This was a big achievement for him.
From 2008 to 2012, Ruben and Sophie Hilbrand hosted Ruben vs. Sophie. In this show, they competed against each other in fun challenges. He also presented Try Before You Die, where he tried out different activities. For example, he even acted in an episode of the American soap opera As the World Turns in 2006.
In 2009, Ruben presented 71° Noord with Karoline Kamosi. In this show, contestants traveled through Norway. He also hosted Gehaktdag in 2010, where celebrities were humorously critiqued.
Moving to RTL
Ruben continued to host many shows. He presented Doe Maar Normaal (2011-2012) and Topmanager gezocht (2011). He also hosted De allerslechtste chauffeur van Nederland from 2011 to 2013. In this show, people with poor driving skills tried to complete driving challenges.
In 2013, he presented Golden Oldies, a show where an older choir sang rock songs. He also hosted De allerslechtste echtgenoot van Nederland. Later, he competed against other celebrities in shows like Ruben vs Katja (2013) and Ruben vs Geraldine (2014).
In 2015, Ruben Nicolai started working for RTL, a major TV channel. He hosted the game show Vijf tegen Vijf, which was based on the American show Family Feud. He also became the presenter of Beste Kijkers, a game show that first aired in 2015.
Recent TV Projects
Ruben has been very busy with RTL. He presented Idols 5 (2016) and Idols 6 (2017) with Lieke van Lexmond. These were seasons of the popular singing competition Idols. He also joined RTL Boulevard as a presenter in 2016.
With Tijl Beckand, Ruben presented Professor Nicolai & Dr. Beckand. This show featured small science experiments and questions. Since 2017, he has been a team captain in Oh, wat een jaar!, a show where contestants look back at a specific year. He also became a team captain in Wie ben ik? in 2018.
Since 2019, Ruben Nicolai has presented Ik weet er alles van!, a popular quiz show. He also hosts Ik weet er alles van! VIPS with celebrities and Ik weet er alles van! Junior with children.
One of his most famous roles since 2019 is hosting the Dutch version of The Masked Singer. In this show, celebrities sing while wearing elaborate costumes, and judges try to guess who they are.
In 2020, Ruben and Belgian presenter Kürt Rogiers hosted Lego Masters. In this show, teams from the Netherlands and Belgium compete to build amazing things with Lego bricks. The show has been very successful and returned for more seasons.
In 2022, Ruben presented Volg je me nog?, a show about online media. He also hosted Domino Challenge, where duos created and toppled domino patterns. Another show he presented in 2022 was The Big Show met Ruben Nicolai.
In 2024, Ruben presented Doet-ie 't of doet-ie 't niet and Te land, ter zee en in de lucht with Gerard Joling. He is also set to present the fourth season of Lego Masters in 2025, called Lego Masters: Out of the Box. He also hosts De Erfgenaam, where he helps find people who can receive unclaimed inheritances.
Personal Life
Ruben Nicolai studied theatre, film, and television in Utrecht, Netherlands. He is a father to two daughters.
