Ruby Esther Harrold Hollander, born on June 4, 1996, is a talented British artistic gymnast. She was part of the British Olympic team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ruby was also a backup athlete for the 2012 Summer Olympics team.
She helped the British team win a bronze medal in the team final at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. After the 2016 Olympics, Ruby stopped competing at the highest level. She then joined the LSU Tigers gymnastics team in the United States. She received a full scholarship to attend Louisiana State University starting in the fall of 2016.

Ruby Harrold started her gymnastics journey early. She showed great promise in her junior years.
Competing in 2010
In April 2010, Ruby competed at the 2010 European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Birmingham, UK. Her performance helped the British team finish in fifth place.
Later that year, in July, Ruby competed at the British Championships. She placed fourth in the all-around competition. She also won first place on the vault, which was a great achievement!
Competing in 2011
In May 2011, Ruby took part in the British teams competition. Her scores helped her academy team finish fifth.
In July, she competed at the British Championships again. This time, she earned second place in the uneven bars final.
Ruby's Senior Gymnastics Career
Ruby moved up to senior-level gymnastics in 2012. This meant competing against older and more experienced gymnasts.
Starting Senior Competitions in 2012
In May 2012, Ruby competed at the 2012 European Women's Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Brussels, Belgium. She stepped in for an injured teammate. Her strong performances on vault and uneven bars helped the British team finish fourth. She also placed seventh in the uneven bars final. Ruby said it was an "amazing competition" and that the team worked well together.
At the end of June, Ruby competed at the British Championships. This event was important because it was the final tryout for the Olympics. She placed third in the uneven bars final.
Achievements in 2013
At the 2013 European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Moscow, Ruby reached three finals. She made it to the individual all-around, uneven bars, and balance beam finals.
Making History in Europe
In the all-around final, Ruby finished eighth. This was a big deal because she was the first British woman to ever place in the top 10 in an all-around European Championships final! She also finished sixth in the balance beam final. In the uneven bars final, she had a fall and finished eighth.
World Championships Debut
Ruby also competed at the 2013 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She finished 17th in the all-around and seventh in the uneven bars.
Success in 2014
The year 2014 was very successful for Ruby. She competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Commonwealth Games Medals
Ruby helped England win first place in the team competition at the Commonwealth Games. She also won a silver medal in the individual all-around event. In the uneven bars final, Ruby earned a bronze medal. Her teammate, Rebecca Downie, won the gold in that event.
World Championships Again
In October 2014, Ruby competed at the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Nanning, China. This was her second time at a World Championship event. She performed well, helping Great Britain qualify in fourth place as a team, which was a record for them. Ruby also qualified for the all-around and uneven bars finals.
In the team final, Ruby competed on three events: vault, uneven bars, and floor. Her scores helped Great Britain finish in sixth place. In the all-around final, she improved her previous ranking, finishing 11th. She also competed in her second World Championship uneven bars final. Unfortunately, she had a fall and placed eighth.
Updates in 2015
In January 2015, Ruby was set to compete at the AT&T American Cup. However, she had a minor injury and had to withdraw from the competition.
Ruby returned to competition at the British Team Championships. She helped her team, The Academy, finish in third place. Later that month, she won a gold medal in the uneven bars final at the World Challenge Cup in Croatia. She scored much higher than the silver medalist!
In November 2015, Ruby officially signed to join Louisiana State University's gymnastics team.
Olympic Year 2016 and Retirement
In July 2016, Ruby was chosen for Great Britain's women's gymnastics team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The team finished in fifth place.
On August 22, 2016, Ruby announced that she was retiring from international gymnastics. However, she continued to compete at the college level in America for Louisiana State University.
