Rubén Garabaya (born September 15, 1978) is a Spanish former handball player. He is currently a handball coach for RK Eurofarm Pelister. He was part of the Spanish team that won the 2005 World Men's Handball Championship in Tunisia.

Playing Career Highlights
Rubén Garabaya began his handball journey at BM Corvera. In 1997, he joined Caja España Ademar, a team in Spain's top handball league, Liga ASOBAL. With this team, he won the Copa ASOBAL in 1999 and the EHF Cup Winners' Cup.
Playing for Different Clubs
After two years, from 1999 to 2001, Garabaya played for Frigoríficos del Morrazo. He then moved to BM Valladolid, a local rival of his previous club, Ademar León. At BM Valladolid, he won the Copa ASOBAL again in 2003. He also helped the team win the Copa del Rey de Balonmano in both 2005 and 2006.
In 2007, Rubén Garabaya joined FC Barcelona, one of the most famous sports clubs. With Barcelona, he won the Copa del Rey in 2009 and 2010. He also reached the final of the EHF Champions League in 2010, but his team lost to the German side THW Kiel.
Rubén Garabaya joined Naturhouse La Rioja in 2010. He played for this team until he retired from playing handball after the 2017-2018 season.
Representing Spain
Rubén Garabaya played 168 matches for the Spain men's national handball team. He was a key player when Spain won the 2005 World Men's Handball Championship in Tunisia.
He also took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. His team won a bronze medal at these Olympic Games. They achieved this by defeating Croatia in the match for third place.
At the 2006 European Men's Handball Championship, Rubén Garabaya and the Spanish team won silver medals.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Rubén Garabaya started his coaching career. He became an assistant coach at his former club, Naturhouse La Rioja, in 2018. He held this position until 2021.
In June 2021, he became the head coach of the China women's national handball team. However, he moved on quickly. By October 2021, he became an assistant coach for the Egypt men's national handball team, working under coach Roberto García Parrondo. With the Egyptian team, he helped them win silver medals at the 2022 Mediterranean Games. They also won gold medals at the 2022 African Men's Handball Championship.
In 2022, Rubén Garabaya became the head coach of the Spanish Liga ASOBAL team Unicaja Banco Sinfín. He coached this team until 2025. He is now the head coach of RK Eurofarm Pelister.
