Rudra Srichandra Rajasingham (born April 2, 1926 – died March 24, 2006) was an important person from Sri Lanka. He was a top police officer and also worked as a diplomat. A diplomat is someone who represents their country in another country.
Early Life and Education
Rudra Rajasingham was born on April 2, 1926. He went to several schools in Sri Lanka. These included Hartley College, C.M.S. Ladies' College, Colombo, and Trinity College, Kandy.
At Trinity College, he was a school prefect. This means he was a student leader. He also loved sports and played both cricket and rugby for his school. After school, he went to the University of Ceylon in Colombo. There, he studied English, History, and Economics. He continued to play cricket and rugby for the university team.
Rudra Rajasingham married a woman named Sita. They had one daughter, Sharminie.
Career as a Police Officer
In 1949, Rudra Rajasingham joined the Ceylon Police Force. He started as a probationary Assistant Superintendent of Police. This was his first step in a long police career.
He worked at many different police stations. Some of these places included Tangalle, Mannar, and Colombo. Over the years, he moved up in rank.
In 1982, he reached the highest position in the police force. He was named the Inspector General of Police. This made him the most senior police officer in all of Sri Lanka. In 1985, he was part of peace talks. These talks were held in Thimpu with different groups in Sri Lanka.
Rudra Rajasingham was also very involved in sports within the police force. He was the head of the Police Sports Club. He also led its rugby section. Outside of the police, he played rugby for the Ceylonese Rugby & Football Club. He even became its president in 1971. Later, in 1974, he was made a life member of the club.
Life After Retirement
After he retired from the police force, Rudra Rajasingham took on new roles. In 1985, he became Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Indonesia. An ambassador is a country's official representative in another country.
Later, he became the chairman of the State Mortgage Bank. He was also a member of the first group of people chosen to investigate bribery and corruption.
From 1993 to 1994, he served as the president of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union. This shows his continued love for rugby.
Rudra Rajasingham passed away on March 24, 2006. He died at the Police Hospital in Colombo.
