Rudy Markussen, born on July 24, 1977, is a former professional boxer from Denmark. He competed in boxing matches from 1997 to 2015. Rudy fought for big titles during his career. In 2002, he aimed for the IBF super middleweight title. He also challenged for the interim WBA super middleweight title in 2012. At a regional level, he held the WBO Inter-Continental super middleweight title from 2003 to 2004. He also won the EBU European super middleweight title in 2004.
In 2006, Rudy was in a car accident. This accident caused him to stop boxing for a while. He returned to the ring four years later, fighting six times between 2010 and 2012. He won five of these fights and lost one. After another three-year break, Markussen came back in 2015 for two final matches before retiring for good.

Rudy's Boxing Journey
The Big Fight Against Ottke
After another Danish boxer, Mads Larsen, lost to Sven Ottke, the Danish media really wanted Markussen to win against the German boxer. It was a big match between two undefeated fighters. Ottke had 28 wins and no losses, while Markussen had 27 wins and no losses. They were fighting for the IBF Super Middleweight title.
Sven Ottke had defended his title 15 times, so many people thought Markussen was the underdog. But Rudy showed he was ready to fight hard for the title. Many experts believed Markussen deserved to win the fight. However, all three judges scored the match 116-112 in favor of Sven Ottke.
Changing Boxing Teams
After Rudy Markussen stopped his career temporarily because of a car accident, he also spoke out against his old promoter, Mogens Palle. Markussen felt that Mogens Palle did not pay him enough money. Both men shared their disagreements in the media.
When Markussen returned to boxing in 2010, he signed a new contract. He joined the German team, Team Sauerland. This team helped him with his last two fights. These matches were shown on their Viasat Nordic Fight Night shows.
The Magee Challenge
In February 2012, Rudy was set to fight Brian Magee. Magee was the current WBA champion. The fight took place in Brøndby Hallen, Denmark. This situation was similar to the Ottke fight in 2002. Another Danish boxer, Mads Larsen, had also fought Magee and lost. So, Markussen wanted to get revenge for his fellow Dane.
This was the second time in Rudy's career that he was fighting for a world title. The first time was in 2002 against Sven Ottke for the IBF Super Middleweight title. Before the Magee fight, Markussen had not lost any matches since his break in 2006. But Magee changed that in the fifth round. He landed a powerful punch to Rudy's liver. Markussen could not continue and was knocked out.
