A Look Back: The Centre's History

The shopping centre first opened its doors in 1979. Back then, it was simply called "Rugby Shopping Centre." It quickly became an important part of the town. Over the years, it has changed its name a couple of times, reflecting its journey and growth.

The Clock Towers Era

In 1995, the centre got a new name: "Clock Towers Shopping Centre." This name was inspired by the famous clock tower in the town centre. To match its new name, the shopping centre added fun clock-themed decorations. You could see clocks and other time-related designs all around the building.

The Chiming Clock Story

During the "Clock Towers" period, two special ornamental clocks were installed. They looked a bit like traditional grandfather clocks. One of these was called the Chiming Clock. This amazing clock would chime and play music every hour and half-hour. It even had a tortoise and a hare that raced around the clock dials! This was a fun way to show the famous Aesop's fable of the Tortoise and the Hare. The centre kept this name and theme for many years.

The Current Name

Finally, in October 2017, the centre changed its name one last time to what it is known as today: "Rugby Central Shopping Centre." It continues to be a central and important part of Rugby town.
