Rugged Lark (born May 1, 1981 – died October 26, 2004) was a famous Quarter Horse stallion (a male horse). He was known for being a two-time "Superhorse" at the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) World Show. He also won three AQHA World Champion titles and the Silver Spur Award.

About Rugged Lark

Rugged Lark was born in 1981. His father was a Thoroughbred stallion named Really Rugged. His mother was a Quarter Horse mare (a female horse) named Alisa Lark.

Show Career and Achievements

Rugged Lark was an amazing show horse. He won the special AQHA World Show Superhorse title twice, in 1985 and 1987. The Superhorse award goes to the horse that performs best in many different types of events.

Winning Titles

He also earned "Superior" titles in several events. This means he was one of the best in Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, and Trail riding. In 1985, he became the World Champion in Pleasure Driving. In 1987, he won the World Champion title for Senior Hunter Under Saddle.

Events He Competed In

Rugged Lark earned points in many different horse show events. These included Hunter Under Saddle, Western Pleasure, and Trail. He also competed in Hunter Hack, Reining, Working Hunter, Western Riding, Pleasure Driving, and Barrel Racing.

His Offspring

Rugged Lark was also a very successful father. Many of his children became great show horses too. Some of his famous offspring include The Lark Ascending and Look Whos Larkin. Look Whos Larkin even won the AQHA World Show Superhorse title in 1999. This makes Rugged Lark one of only two stallions to have children who also won Superhorse titles.

Legacy and Honors

Sadly, Rugged Lark passed away in October 2004 due to colic, a common horse illness.

Because of his amazing achievements, Rugged Lark was honored by being inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame. This is a very special award for horses who have made a big impact on the Quarter Horse breed.
