Starting His Career

Rui Komatsu began his football journey while studying at Kwansei Gakuin University. In 2005, he was chosen as a "Designated Player for Development." This special status allowed him to join a professional team, Cerezo Osaka, even while still playing for his university. However, he did not play in any official matches for Cerezo at that time.

Turning Professional

After finishing university in 2006, Komatsu officially signed with Cerezo Osaka. He made his first professional league appearance on August 12, 2006. This was in a match against Omiya Ardija. Later that year, he went on loan to V-Varen Nagasaki.

Scoring Goals at Cerezo Osaka

Komatsu returned to Cerezo Osaka for the 2007 season. He scored his first goal for the club on May 23, 2007. This goal helped his team win 3-1 against Mito HollyHock. During that season, he and another striker, Tatsuya Furuhashi, became a strong scoring duo. Together, they scored 30 goals for the team.

Later Career and Retirement

Rui Komatsu continued to play for several other teams. These included Kawasaki Frontale, Oita Trinita, and he also returned to V-Varen Nagasaki. His last team was Giravanz Kitakyushu. After playing for three years with Giravanz Kitakyushu, Komatsu decided to stop playing football. He retired in January 2018 due to injuries. After retiring, he became a coach at his former club, Cerezo Osaka.
