Rui Komatsu's Football Journey
Starting His Career
Rui Komatsu began his football journey while studying at Kwansei Gakuin University. In 2005, he was chosen as a "Designated Player for Development." This special status allowed him to join a professional team, Cerezo Osaka, even while still playing for his university. However, he didn't play in any official matches for Cerezo at that time.
Joining Cerezo Osaka
After finishing university in 2006, Rui officially signed with Cerezo Osaka. He made his first appearance in the J. League on August 12, 2006. This was in a game where his team lost 1-0 to Omiya Ardija. A couple of months later, he was loaned out to a team called V-Varen Nagasaki. This meant he played for them for a short time to gain more experience.
Returning and Scoring Goals
Rui came back to Cerezo Osaka for the 2007 season. He scored his first goal for the club on May 23, 2007. This goal helped his team win 3-1 against Mito HollyHock. During that season, Rui became a strong attacking player alongside another striker, Tatsuya Furuhashi. Together, they scored an impressive 30 goals for their team.
Moving to Other Teams
After his time at Cerezo Osaka, Rui played for several other teams. He joined Kawasaki Frontale in 2012. Later, he played for Oita Trinita and then returned to V-Varen Nagasaki. Each move helped him gain more experience and play in different leagues.
Final Years and Retirement
Rui Komatsu spent three years playing for Giravanz Kitakyushu. He played many games and scored goals for them. However, due to injuries, he decided to stop playing professional football. In January 2018, Rui retired from playing. He then started a new role as a coach at his former club, Cerezo Osaka.
