Rui Maria de Araújo was born on May 21, 1964. He is a politician from East Timor. He served as the country's Prime Minister from 2015 to 2017. Before becoming Prime Minister, he worked as a doctor. He is also a member of the political party called Fretilin.
Mr. Araújo was the Minister of Health for East Timor from 2001 to 2006. He then became the Deputy Prime Minister from 2006 to 2007. He officially became Prime Minister of East Timor on February 16, 2015. His term ended in 2017, and Mari Alkatiri took over the role.

Rui Maria de Araújo was born in a village called Mape, Cova Lima. This was in what was then known as Portuguese Timor. He is married to Teresa António Madeira Soares. They have two children together.
Education and Medical Career
Mr. Araújo studied medicine at Sultan Agung Islamic University in Semarang, Indonesia. He specialized in ear, nose, and throat surgery. He received this special training at Udayana University in Bali, Indonesia.
He also earned a Master's degree in Public Health. He completed this degree at Otago University in New Zealand. Before studying medicine, he spent a year studying English literature. This was at Satya Wacana Christian University in Salatiga, Indonesia.
