Satya Wacana Christian University, also known as UKSW, is a private university. It is located in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia. The name "Satya Wacana" comes from an old language called Sanskrit. It means "Faithful to the Word" or "Word of God." UKSW has several campuses spread out across the city of Salatiga.

A Look Back in Time

Satya Wacana Christian University started on November 30, 1956. It was first called the College for Christian Teachers (PTPGKI). Nine church groups in Indonesia helped create it.

When it first opened, students could study five main subjects. These included Teaching, History, English, Law, and Economics. A few years later, on July 17, 1959, its name changed. It became the Christian Faculty of Teaching and Education Indonesia (FKIP-KI). Then, on December 5, 1959, it officially became Satya Wacana Christian University.

What You Can Study

The university offers many different courses for students. It has 14 main departments, called faculties. You can choose from many programs to get a degree.

  • Diploma Courses: These are shorter programs, usually lasting about three or four years. They teach practical skills for specific jobs.
  • Undergraduate Courses: These are also called Bachelor's degrees. There are 39 different subjects you can study.
  • Graduate Courses: If you want to study more after your Bachelor's degree, you can take a Master's program. There are 10 of these.
  • Postgraduate Courses: These are the highest level of study, called Doctoral programs. There are 3 of these for advanced research.
