Rukhsana Khan was born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1962. When she was three years old, her family moved to Canada. She grew up in a town called Dundas, Ontario. She later studied at Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology. Today, she lives in Toronto, Ontario, with her husband and four children.

Rukhsana started her writing career by creating songs for children's videos called Adam's World. Her stories have also appeared in magazines like Message International and Kahani. She has won awards for her books, which include picture books, short story collections, and novels.

Rukhsana Khan is known as a Canadian children's author who loves to tell stories about different cultures. Her books have been translated into many languages, including Italian and Japanese. In 2008, she gave a speech in Copenhagen, Denmark. She talked about how important it is to create freely while also respecting different cultures.
