About Uma Krishnaswami
Uma Krishnaswami was born in 1956 in New Delhi, India. She studied political science and social work at the University of Delhi. In 1979, she moved to the United States. There, she continued her studies at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Her Journey as a Writer
Uma Krishnaswami's first story was published when she was just thirteen years old. It appeared in Children's World, a magazine in India. Since then, her stories and poems have been featured in popular magazines like Cricket and Highlights.
Her books have won many awards. She writes different kinds of books, including novels for middle schoolers, picture books for younger kids, and non-fiction books. Her works are available in English, Hindi, Tamil, and many other languages.
In 2011, Uma Krishnaswami was invited to the National Book Festival. This big event is put on by the Library of Congress. It celebrates books and reading.
One of her picture books, Chachaji's Cup, was even turned into a musical! It was performed in theaters in New York City and California.
Teaching Writing
Uma Krishnaswami has taught writing to both kids and adults for many years. For over ten years, she was a special writer at the Aztec Ruins National Monument. She also taught writing classes online. Today, she teaches in a special program at Vermont College of Fine Arts. This program helps people learn how to write books for children and young adults.
