Runelight is an exciting fantasy novel written by Joanne Harris. It was published in 2011. This book is the second part of her RUNE series. It continues the story from her first book, Runemarks.

The story of Runelight follows a young girl named Maddy Smith. It also features her twin sister, Maggie Rede. Maddy and Maggie find themselves on opposite sides. They are part of a big war between old gods and new gods. Both sisters must face very strong forces. They fight to protect everything that is important to them. Joanne Harris decided to write this sequel because she felt the story was not finished. She believed there was more to tell.

What is Runelight About?

The story of Runelight takes place three years after the events in Runemarks. The world, known as the Middle World, has changed a lot. In the previous book, a group called the Order was destroyed. The gods who survived this destruction have found a new home. They gathered in a village called Malbry.

The Gods and a New Threat

The leader of the old enemies, The General, is now gone. It seems very hard to rebuild Asgard, the home of the gods. But then, a special prediction comes true. Strange creatures start appearing in the Middle Worlds. These events show a break in something called Chaos. This break could lead to another Apocalypse. An Apocalypse means the end of the world.

Maddy's New Challenge

Once again, Maddy and her friends must face a new danger. This time, the enemy is someone they know. It is a rebel from World's End. This rebel is Maddy's own twin sister, Maggie. Both Maddy and Maggie are special. They are the daughters of Thor, a powerful god. They must now fight each other to decide the fate of their world.
