Douglas Jack Agu (born August 19, 1989), known as Runtown, is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Nigeria. He mixes different music styles like Afrobeats, hip-hop, R&B, and reggae. He became well-known with his song "Gallardo" in 2014, which featured Davido. Later, his 2016 song "Mad Over You" made him famous around the world.

"Mad Over You" was a big hit. It even reached number 38 on the Billboard Twitter Top Tracks chart. This was Runtown's first time on that chart.

Early Life

Runtown was born on August 19, 1989, in Enugu, the capital city of Enugu State in southeastern Nigeria. He spent parts of his childhood in Abuja, Nigeria's capital, and in Lagos State, where he finished primary school. After his father passed away, he moved to Abuja with his mother, who worked for the Ministry of Health.

Music Journey

Starting Out (2010–2014)

Runtown began his music career in 2007. He moved to Lagos with his friend Phyno to chase their dreams in music. They stayed with a musician named J. Martins. Runtown helped J. Martins with his second album, even producing some songs. Through J. Martins, Runtown met Timaya, another artist who became his mentor. Timaya helped Runtown learn a lot about the music business.

In 2011, Runtown officially started his career. He released his first song, "Party Like It's 1980." In 2014, he released "Gallardo" with Davido. This song was the first single from his album, Ghetto University. "Gallardo" was very successful. It won "Best Collaboration of the Year" at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Around the same time, some people thought Runtown helped write Davido's song "Aye". Runtown talked about this in an interview. He said that Davido had already explained how the song was made.

Ghetto University and Global Success (2015–2017)

On November 23, 2015, Runtown released his first studio album, Ghetto University. It was released through MTN Music Plus and Eric Many Entertainment. The album earned a lot of money on the music platform. This made him one of the "Top 5 Most Streamed Artists."

On November 4, 2016, Runtown released the song "Mad Over You". This song became very popular. It reached number 38 on the Billboard Twitter Top Tracks chart. A music expert from Pulse Nigeria said the song was inspired by the Ghanaian Alkayida sound. Runtown told The Fader magazine that African beauty inspired the song.

Starting His Own Label (2018–2022)

In 2018, Runtown started his own music label called Soundgod Music Group. He left his previous label, Eric Many Entertainment, after some disagreements. Under his new label, Runtown kept releasing new music. This included songs like "Unleash" (featuring Fekky) and "For Life."

In 2019, Runtown released an EP (a shorter album) called Tradition. This EP was praised for its good music and Runtown's strong lyrics. It included popular songs like "Emotions" and "Goosebumps."

On December 16, 2022, Runtown released his album 'Signs'. A music reviewer from African Folder said this album showed Runtown taking control of his music career.
