Douglas Jack Agu (born August 19, 1989), known as Runtown, is a talented singer, songwriter, and producer from Nigeria. His music is a cool mix of different styles. He blends Afrobeats, hip-hop, R&B, and reggae to create his unique sound.

Runtown first became popular with his song "Gallardo" in 2014. This song featured another famous artist, Davido. Later, his 2016 hit single "Mad Over You" became a huge success. It even reached number 38 on the Billboard Twitter Top Tracks chart.

Runtown's Early Life

Runtown was born on August 19, 1989, in Enugu, Nigeria. This city is the capital of Enugu State. He spent parts of his childhood in Abuja, Nigeria's capital, and in Lagos State. He finished his primary school education in Lagos. After his father passed away, he moved to Abuja with his mother. She worked for the Ministry of Health.

Runtown's Music Journey

Starting Out in Music (2010–2014)

Runtown started his music career in 2007. He moved to Lagos with his friend and fellow artist, Phyno. They both wanted to make it big in music. They lived with a musician named J. Martins. Runtown helped J. Martins with his second album, even producing some songs.

Through J. Martins, Runtown met Timaya, another well-known artist. Timaya became a mentor to Runtown. He helped Runtown learn a lot about the music business. Runtown worked hard to improve his skills during this time.

In 2011, Runtown officially launched his career. He released his first song, "Party Like It's 1980." Then, in 2014, he released "Gallardo" with Davido. This song was the first single from his album, Ghetto University. "Gallardo" was a big hit and won an award for "Best Collaboration of the Year" in 2014.

Ghetto University and Global Hits (2015–2017)

On November 23, 2015, Runtown released his first studio album. It was called Ghetto University. The album was very successful. It made a lot of money on the MTN Music Plus platform. This success helped him become one of the "Top 5 Most Streamed Artists."

On November 4, 2016, Runtown released the song "Mad Over You." This song quickly became a fan favorite. It even reached number 38 on the Billboard Twitter Top Tracks chart. The song was inspired by the beauty of African women.

Creating His Own Label (2018–Present)

In 2018, Runtown started his own music label. He named it Soundgod Music Group. He created this label after leaving his previous record company. Under his new label, Runtown continued to release new music. Some of his songs include "Unleash" and "For Life."

In 2019, Runtown released an EP (Extended Play) called Tradition. This project was praised for its great production and Runtown's strong lyrics. It featured popular tracks like "Emotions" and "Goosebumps."

Runtown released his album 'Signs' on December 16, 2022. He continues to make music and share his unique sound with fans around the world.
