How Rural Got Started
Rural was first known as Wood Station. It began around 1870. This was when a railroad line was built and reached that spot. The railroad helped the community grow.
The Post Office and Name Change
In 1874, a post office was opened there. It was given the name Rural. This is how the community got its current name. The post office served the area for many years. It stayed open until 1907.
