Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Ruschell Boone (born West, 1975–2023) was a reporter and journalist from Jamaica. She lived and worked in New York City. Ruschell worked for the TV news channel NY1 from 2002 until she passed away on September 3, 2023.

Early Life and Education

Ruschell Boone was born in Kingston, Jamaica. When she was 11, she moved to the Bronx in New York City in 1986. She remembered being teased for her Jamaican accent there. She lived with her mother, Faithlyn, and her stepfather, Duke Scott.

Ruschell studied accounting at City University of New York (CUNY) Baruch College. She chose accounting because she thought it would lead to a good job. However, in her last year of college, she found her true passion: journalism. This happened when she filled in for a missing guest on a college radio show. Her school advisor tried to tell her not to change her career path, saying it was too late and she didn't "fit the mold." But Ruschell followed her dream.

Her Career in News

Ruschell Boone started working in TV news in 1998. She first worked for CNBC, helping with business news. Then, she was a producer and editor for CNN. In 2002, she joined NY1, a local news channel in New York City.

At NY1, Ruschell reported on many important events. She covered big news stories like the 2016 pressure-cooker bombing in Manhattan and the 2016 United States presidential election. In 2018, she became a general assignment reporter for NY1's Live at Ten news show. This meant she reported on a variety of topics.

Ruschell was recognized for her excellent work. In 2019, she was nominated for three New York Emmy Awards for her news reporting and her work on NY1's talk shows. She was nominated again in 2020 as a live reporter.
