Schoenolirion, also known as rush-lily or sunnybell, is a group of three types of flowering plants. These plants are special because they only grow naturally in the southeastern United States. Scientists place them in the Asparagaceae plant family, which also includes asparagus! This family is part of a larger group called Agavoideae.

Types of Schoenolirion Plants

There are three main types, or species, of Schoenolirion plants that scientists have identified:

  • Schoenolirion albiflorum: This plant is found in the states of Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.
  • Schoenolirion croceum: You can find this type growing from North Carolina all the way to eastern Texas.
  • Schoenolirion wrightii: This species grows in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama.
