Rusk is a small place in Lost River Township, which is part of Martin County, in the state of Indiana, United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

The History of Rusk

Rusk was first settled by people in 1836. It was probably named after Jeremiah McLain Rusk, who was an important person in the U.S. government. He served as the Secretary of Agriculture.

Post Office and Tornado Impact

A post office opened in Rusk in 1892. This was a place where people could send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years until it closed in 1954.

On June 25, 2023, a strong tornado hit the community. This tornado was very powerful and caused a lot of damage. A two-story cabin was completely destroyed. Sadly, this storm resulted in some people getting hurt, and one person did not survive.
