Russell is a small place in Barrow County, Georgia, in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government. It's also a census-designated place (CDP), which is a special area the government uses to count people for the census.

In 2010, about 1,203 people lived in Russell. By 2020, the population had grown to 1,322 people.

History of Russell

Russell was probably named after Richard Russell Sr.. He was an important judge in Georgia. He lived from 1861 to 1938.

In 1902, the government of Georgia officially made Russell a city. This is called "incorporating" a place. But later, in 1995, Russell's official city status was removed. This means it went back to being an unincorporated community.

Russell is in the middle part of Barrow County. It is located at coordinates 33°58′43″N 83°42′0″W.

The city of Winder is next to Russell, to its north and west. Winder is the main city in Barrow County. Russell covers a total area of about 3.1 square kilometers (which is about 1.16 square miles). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.
