Russell, Colorado facts for kids
Russell is a small place in Costilla County, Colorado. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it's a group of homes and buildings that doesn't have its own local government, like a city or town does. Russell is very high up, about 8,428 feet (2,569 meters) above sea level.
History of Russell
Russell was named after a man named William Greeneberry Russell. He was a "prospector," which means he was someone who explored and searched for valuable minerals, like gold. A post office, where people could send and receive mail, was open in Russell for a long time, from 1876 until 1956.
