Russell is a small place in Lauderdale County, Mississippi. It is known as an "unincorporated community." This means it is a group of homes and businesses that does not have its own official city government. Instead, it is managed as part of the larger county.
Russell is located about 7 miles (11 km) east-northeast of a bigger city called Meridian. It is also about 5.1 miles (8.2 km) west-southwest of another community named Toomsuba. You can find Russell right along U.S. Route 80. It is also considered part of the area around Meridian, known as the Meridian, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area.
For many years, Russell had its own post office. It opened in 1867 and helped people send and receive mail. The post office served the community until it closed in 1976.
