Russell Hinder (born 10 July 1979) is a former professional basketball player from Australia. He played for 13 seasons in the NBL. Russell was known for playing as a power forward or centre.

Early Basketball Journey
Russell Hinder started his basketball journey early. In 1997, he attended the Australian Institute of Sport. This is a special place where young athletes train.
He then went to college in the United States. He studied at the University of San Francisco. Later, in 2000, he moved to Augusta State University.
Professional Career Highlights
After college, Russell returned to Australia. He began his professional career in the NBL.
West Sydney Razorbacks
Russell joined the West Sydney Razorbacks in 2001. In his last season with the team, he helped them reach the NBL Grand Final. His great performance also earned him third place for the Most Improved Player award.
Hunter Pirates and Sydney Kings
After the Razorbacks, Russell played for the Hunter Pirates. He spent one year with them. Then, he joined the Sydney Kings.
While with the Kings, Russell earned a spot on the Australian Boomers team. This is Australia's national basketball team. The Boomers won the Gold Medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Russell also played in the FIBA World Championships that same year. He helped the Sydney Kings reach two Grand Finals. However, they lost to the Melbourne Tigers both times. The Kings team stopped playing after the 2007–08 NBL season.
Townsville Crocodiles
Russell was thinking about retiring from basketball. But then, he signed with the Townsville Crocodiles. This happened just after the Crocodiles lost their main centre, Ben Pepper.
When Russell arrived in Townsville, he shared his goal. He wanted to help the Crocs win an NBL championship. The team had never won one before. Russell had played in three NBL finals but had not won a series.
Russell won the Townsville Crocodiles' Players' Player Award in 2008–09. This award is given by the players themselves.
Injury and Retirement
Russell faced a challenge in the 2011–12 NBL season. He broke his leg and could not play at all.
On 4 November 2013, Russell Hinder announced his retirement. He said he would stop playing after the 2013–14 season. His 350th and final NBL game was on 22 March 2014. The Crocodiles won that game 88–79 against the Sydney Kings. In his last game, Russell played for 31 minutes. He scored 13 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, made 1 assist, and had 1 block.
