Where Rusty Blackbirds Live
These amazing birds spend their breeding season in wet, swampy forests. They love areas called "muskegs," which are a type of bog found in cold regions. You can find them nesting in these places across Canada and Alaska.
Their Winter Homes
When winter arrives, rusty blackbirds fly south. They migrate to the eastern and southeastern United States. Some even travel into parts of the Grain Belt region. Occasionally, a few might even stray as far south as Mexico. This long journey helps them find warmer weather and more food.
What Rusty Blackbirds Eat
Rusty blackbirds are quite good at finding food in wet places. They mostly eat insects, which they find by searching in wet ground or shallow water. They also enjoy small fish. Sometimes, they will eat seeds too. Their diet helps them stay healthy and strong for their long migrations.
