Ruth Abrahams was born in Stepney, a part of London, in 1931. She loved art from a young age. She decided to study art at college.

Her Art Education

Ruth started her art studies in 1951. She went to St Martin's School of Art until 1955. After that, she joined the Royal Academy Schools. She graduated from there in 1959.

During her time at the Royal Academy Schools, Ruth won many awards. These included the Leverhulme Award. She also received the Landseer Medal for Drawing. Another prize was the David Murray Landscape Award. These awards showed how skilled she was.

In 1960, Ruth won the Harrogate Festival Painting Prize. This prize allowed her to study at the British School in Rome. It was a great chance to learn more about art.

Teaching and Exhibitions

Ruth Abrahams also shared her knowledge with others. She taught art part-time at several colleges. These included St Martins, Derby Lonsdale College, and Loughborough College of Art. She also taught at Trent Polytechnic.

Her artwork was shown in many group exhibitions. These shows included displays at the Royal Academy. She also exhibited with the London Group. Today, Durham University owns some of her paintings.
