Ruth Connell is an actress and producer from Scotland. She was born on April 20, 1979. Before becoming an actress, she was a professional dancer and choreographer. Many people know Ruth Connell for her role as Rowena MacLeod in the TV show Supernatural. She played this character from 2014 to 2019. In 2013, she was nominated for "Best Leading Actress" for her roles in the play Peter Pan: The Boy Who Hated Mothers.

Early Life and Dance Training

Ruth Connell grew up in Scotland, near the town of Bonnybridge. She was the only child of David Connell, a football coach, and Fiona Murray, a teacher. Ruth started taking dance lessons when she was very young. She went along to keep her cousin company.

She quickly showed a lot of talent for dancing. She was accepted into the Scottish Ballet's special dance program. As a child, she performed many roles with the Scottish Ballet. One of her main roles was Clara in their show The Nutcracker. As a teenager, she won titles like Scottish Junior Ballet Champion. She also became the Scottish Senior Ballet Champion at dance festivals.

Becoming an Actress

After dancing professionally for a few years, Ruth decided to study acting. She went to the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in London. There, she earned a degree in Acting. When she finished drama college, she was chosen as the "Critics Choice" by The Stage newspaper.

Her first big role after college was playing Grusha in a play called The Caucasian Chalk Circle. This play toured around the UK in 2004. In 2005, she toured the UK again in a play called Men Should Weep. The next year, she played important female roles in Faust at the Royal Lyceum Theatre in Edinburgh.

In 2008, Ruth Connell played two characters, Mrs. Beaver and Mrs. Mcready, in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This play was also at The Royal Lyceum Edinburgh and received great reviews.

Moving to the United States and TV Roles

In 2011, Ruth Connell moved to the United States. Since then, she has acted in several independent films. These include Folklore, The Cursed Man, and Hara Kiri.

She has also lent her voice to famous animated characters. She took over the voice of Merida from the Disney movie Brave. Ruth voiced Merida in video games like Disney Infinity 3.0 and Disney Dreamlight Valley. She also voiced Merida in an episode of the TV show Sofia the First.

From 2014 to 2020, Ruth Connell played Rowena MacLeod on the TV series Supernatural. Rowena was a powerful witch and the mother of Crowley, a character known as the King of Hell. Rowena was one of the longest-running female characters on the show. Ruth also appeared as Rowena in the spin-off series The Winchesters in 2023.

Personal Life

Ruth Connell is in a relationship with Rob Benedict, who was also an actor on Supernatural. They have a daughter, who was born in January 2024.
