Florence Laura Ruth Raymond (1897–1986) was a talented British artist. She was known for her beautiful paintings, special handwriting called calligraphy, and weaving.

About Ruth Raymond
Ruth Raymond was born in 1897 in Greenwich, London. She grew up there and went to The John Roan School.
Her Education and Training
After school, Ruth studied art at several places. From 1914 to 1917, she attended the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts. Then, she spent two years at Greenwich Polytechnic. Finally, she went to the Royal College of Art. There, she learned from famous teachers like the painter Robert Anning Bell.
Early Exhibitions and Career
Ruth Raymond was very talented from a young age. Even before she finished her studies at the Royal College in 1921, her art was shown. In 1920, she exhibited her work at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition in London. She continued to show her art there until at least 1940.
By 1940, Ruth was also teaching. She taught weaving at the Gloucester School of Art. She also showed her paintings and other artworks all over the south-west of England.
Special Artworks
Ruth Raymond was a very skilled calligrapher. This means she had beautiful, artistic handwriting. She worked with another calligrapher, Graily Hewitt. Together, they created special "Books of Remembrance" for Westminster Abbey. These books record important names and events.
Ruth also made the "Record Book" for Gloucester Cathedral. This book also shows her amazing calligraphy. You can even find examples of her weaving at Gloucester Cathedral.
Later Life
For many years, Ruth Raymond lived in a place called Brookthorpe in Gloucestershire. She passed away in Hampshire in 1986.
