Ruthin Craft Centre (Welsh: Canolfan Grefft Rhuthun) is a special place in Ruthin, North Wales. It's a hub for amazing modern art and crafts. People from all over the world visit to see beautiful handmade items. It's a great spot to learn about art and creativity.

The original Craft Centre was taken down in 2007. A brand new centre opened in July 2008. This new building cost about £4.3 million to build. It has many cool features for visitors and artists.

What You Can Find Inside

The new centre is much bigger and better. It includes six workshops where artists create crafts. There are also larger galleries to display art. You can find a bigger shop selling crafts too. The centre has two studios for artists to stay and work. There is also a space for learning and workshops. A tourist information centre helps visitors explore Ruthin. Plus, there's a restaurant for a bite to eat.

Awards and Recognition

The new building was designed by architects Sergison Bates. It has won several awards for its design. In 2009, it won the Dewi-Prys Thomas Prize. It was also considered for the 2009 Art Fund Prize. The Design Commission for Wales called it a 'Design Delight'.

How the Centre is Supported

The Ruthin Craft Centre gets money from the Arts Council of Wales. It is also part of the Denbighshire County Council. This support helps the centre keep running. Philip Hughes is the director of the centre. He has spoken about its importance in the art world.

Ruthin Art Trail

The Ruthin Art Trail is a fun way to explore the town. It started in 2014 to attract more visitors. The trail cost £250,000 to create. It begins right at the Craft Centre. The centre itself brings in about 90,000 visitors each year.

Exploring the Trail

The trail has ten special "spy holes" to look through. There are also 22 small figures placed on buildings and roofs. These figures show parts of Ruthin's history and old stories. For example, you might see a picture of the old livestock market. Another spy hole shows the myth of a wild dog. Small metal figures are also part of the trail.

What You Will See

The art trail guides people all around Ruthin. It has oak benches where you can rest. Freshly planted trees make the walk pleasant. The trail encourages visitors to discover more of the town. You can walk up Market Street and across St. Peter's Square. Then you go down Clwyd Street to the Old Gaol. The trail takes you through other streets too. It eventually leads you back to Market Street.

Who Designed the Trail

Lucy Strachan designed the art trail. She wanted to help people discover Ruthin's hidden gems. Artists and designers worked on the project. They got advice from a local historian. This helped them include Ruthin's heritage and legends.
