The Story of Rutledge
How Rutledge Got Its Name
The community of Rutledge is named after an early settler, Joseph H. Rutledge. He and his family moved to Oregon from California in 1882. They settled in this area in 1883.
The Rutledge Post Office
Joseph H. Rutledge became the first postmaster for the local post office. This post office opened on June 6, 1884. It helped people in the area send and receive mail. The post office served the community for many years. However, it eventually closed down on March 23, 1908.
