Ryan Joyce's Darts Career

Starting in BDO Darts

Ryan Joyce began his professional darts journey in the British Darts Organisation (BDO). In 2014, he played well enough to reach the Last 48 stage of the World Masters tournament. He also took part in the 2016 BDO World Trophy, but was knocked out in the first round.

A big moment for him was qualifying for the 2017 BDO World Darts Championship. He won his first match against Dennis Nilsson. In the next round, he played against the famous Martin Adams. It was a very close game, going all the way to a sudden-death leg, but Ryan lost 3-2.

Outside of these major events, Ryan reached three BDO finals. He also had success in pairs competitions, winning the Turkish Open pairs in 2013 and the Welsh Open pairs in 2015 with his partner Andy Chalmers. In 2017, he won the Scottish Open pairs title with Kevin McDine. His biggest BDO win was the 2017 BDO Gold Cup singles tournament, where he beat Wayne Warren in the final.

Joining the PDC Darts Tour

2018: Earning a Tour Card

In 2018, Ryan Joyce decided to try for a PDC Tour Card at Q-School. This card allows players to compete in all PDC events. He did very well, finishing 10th, and earned his two-year Tour Card. This was a big step in his career.

Later that year, he made his first appearance at the 2018 Players Championship Finals. He was the 27th seed but lost in the first round.

Ryan also made his debut at the 2019 PDC World Darts Championship. He had an amazing run, winning his first two matches without losing a single set. He then won two more tough matches, reaching the quarter-finals. There, he faced Michael van Gerwen, who was the eventual champion, and Ryan lost 5-1.

2020: First PDC Title Win

In July 2020, Ryan achieved a major milestone. He won his first PDC title at Players Championship 10. He had to come back from being 7-3 down in the final to beat Dave Chisnall 8-7 in a thrilling match.

2023: Reaching Major Semi-Finals

The year 2023 was very successful for Ryan. He reached the final of two Players Championship events, showing how consistently well he was playing. In October, he won his second PDC title, beating Gerwyn Price 8-7 in another close final at Players Championship 26.

In November 2023, Ryan reached his first major televised semi-final at the 2023 Players Championship Finals. He played against Luke Humphries, who went on to win the tournament, and Ryan lost 11-3.

2024: More Success in Big Events

In 2024, Ryan continued his strong performance. He was the runner-up at Players Championship 9, losing to Michael Smith in the final.

At the 2024 World Grand Prix, Ryan had another fantastic run. He reached the semi-finals, beating top players like Josh Rock, Nathan Aspinall, and Rob Cross along the way. In the semi-final, he faced Luke Humphries again and was defeated.

Ryan's Darts Style
