Ryang Yong-gi (Chosŏn'gŭl: 량용기; Hancha: 梁勇基; born on January 7, 1982) is a former professional footballer. He played as a midfielder. Ryang was born in Japan, but he played for the North Korea internationally.
He was the captain of his club team. He was known for being a creative midfielder. This means he helped set up goals for his teammates.
Ryang played for the Korea DPR national football team in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying games. He was also part of the North Korean team for the 2010 AFC Challenge Cup. Ryang won two big awards at this competition: the Golden Boot and the Most Valuable Player. His team, North Korea, won the title. This win helped them qualify for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup.

Ryang Yong-gi and the 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake
During the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, Ryang was driving his car. He first thought his tires were flat. Then he realized the ground was shaking very badly. He saw shop windows shaking too.
He knew it was a serious earthquake. He quickly rushed home to find his wife. Ryang and his wife, who was pregnant, spent the night in their car. They were worried about buildings collapsing. The city had suffered a lot of damage.
After the disaster, Ryang and his teammates helped out. They often visited areas that were hit hard. They wanted to support the people there.
Ryang Yong-gi's Football Career
Ryang Yong-gi played for two main clubs during his career. He spent most of his time with Vegalta Sendai. He played for them from 2004 to 2019. He then moved to Sagan Tosu from 2020 to 2022. After that, he returned to Vegalta Sendai for a short time, playing until 2023.
He played many games for Vegalta Sendai, scoring 76 goals in 522 matches. For North Korea, he played 26 international games and scored 7 goals.
