São Miguel is a special area, like a county or district, in the country of Cape Verde. It's located on the northeastern side of Santiago Island. The main city and center of São Miguel is Calheta de São Miguel.
In 2010, about 15,648 people lived there. The total area of São Miguel is about 77.4 square kilometers. This area became its own municipality (a self-governing region) in 1996. Before that, it was part of the older Tarrafal municipality.
