S795 (which stands for Selection-795) is a special type of coffee plant. It's famous because it was one of the very first Arabica coffee plants found to be strong against a disease called coffee leaf rust. This disease can seriously harm coffee crops.

This special coffee plant was created in India at the Balehonnur Coffee Research Station. A scientist named R.L. Narasimhaswamy made it by mixing two different coffee types. He used a plant called S288 (which is a mix of Arabica and Liberica coffee) and another type called Kent. Both S288 and Kent were already known to resist many kinds of rust disease. The Kent variety also grew a lot of coffee beans. The S795 plant got the best traits from both parents: it resists rust, produces many beans, and makes great-tasting coffee. This makes it a favorite for coffee farmers.

S795 coffee is grown a lot in countries like India and Indonesia. In India, about 25-30% of all Arabica coffee farms grow S795.

What S795 Coffee Looks Like

S795 is a tall and strong coffee bush. It has many branches that spread out. The coffee fruits, called cherries, are medium-sized and oval. They start green and turn dark red when they are ready to be picked. Each part of the branch where leaves grow can produce about 14 to 16 cherries. When new leaves grow, they have a light bronze color.

S795 in Coffee Competitions

In 2021, Indonesia held its first big coffee contest called the Cup of Excellence. Out of the top 26 best coffees, twelve of them either used S795 coffee as part of a mix or were made entirely from S795 beans. This shows how good S795 coffee tastes and how popular it is among experts.
