Saúl's Football Journey

Starting at Racing de Santander

Saúl was born in Vioño de Piélagos, a town in Cantabria, Spain. He started his football journey very early. In 2004, when he was just nine years old, he joined the youth team of Racing de Santander.

He worked his way up through the club's system. In the 2012–13 season, he played his first senior games for Racing de Santander B, which is the reserve team. The next summer, in 2013, he was moved up to the main Racing de Santander team.

Moving Up and Playing Professionally

Saúl played in 34 matches during the 2013–14 season. His team, Racing de Santander, was promoted to Segunda División, which is the second-highest league in Spanish football.

On August 24, 2014, Saúl played his first professional match. It was an away game against Girona FC, which Racing lost 0–1. This was a big step in his career.

Time with Deportivo La Coruña and Loans

On December 29, 2014, Saúl signed a long contract with Deportivo de La Coruña, a team in La Liga, Spain's top football league. However, he was loaned back to Racing de Santander until the end of the 2014–15 season.

After playing only two cup matches for Deportivo, he was loaned to CD Tenerife in 2016. Later that year, in August 2016, he was loaned again to Girona FC. In January 2017, he moved on loan to RCD Mallorca.

In January 2018, Saúl was loaned to CD Numancia. He made his debut for Numancia in a Copa del Rey match against Real Madrid at the famous Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Even though Numancia drew 2–2, they were eliminated from the cup.

Returning to Racing de Santander

Saúl returned to Deportivo La Coruña for the 2018–19 season. In June 2019, he signed a four-year contract with Deportivo Alavés, another top-tier team. However, he was loaned out again, this time to Rayo Vallecano in September 2019.

In September 2020, Saúl joined Sporting de Gijón on a one-year loan. When he returned to Alavés, he finally made his debut in Spain's top league, La Liga, on September 25, 2021. He came on as a substitute in a 1–0 home win against Atlético Madrid.

On July 29, 2022, Saúl ended his contract with Alavés. The very next day, he returned to his first club, Racing de Santander, signing a two-year deal. He has been playing for Racing de Santander since then.
