Sabah Jazairi (whose name in Arabic is صباح جزائري) is a very experienced actress from Syria. She has acted in many TV shows, short comedies, and plays. Some of her famous works include "Al Ababid", "Returning to Haifa", and Bab Al-Hara. People sometimes call her "The Cinderella of the Syrian Screen" because she has had such a long and successful career. Sabah Jazairi has been acting for over 50 years and has appeared in more than 80 TV series! She has also won many awards for her amazing performances.

Early Life

Sabah Jazairi was born in Damascus, Syria, on January 23, 1955. Her family was already involved in the entertainment world. Her cousin, Nibal Al Jazairi, was also an actress. Her older sister, Samia Jazairi, became a well-known comedian.

Her Acting Journey

Sabah Jazairi started her acting career when she was 18 years old in 1973. She joined the cast of a comedy show called Salt and Sugar. She worked alongside famous Syrian comedians like Duraid Lahham and Nihad Qalai. The next year, she starred in the series Primo. After that, she performed in Sah Al-Noom, which is considered one of the most popular Arabic comedy series in the Arab World.

After a short break from acting, she returned to the screen in 1979. She played different roles in the comedy series Wayne El Ghalt. This show was written and directed by Duraid Lahham, who also acted in it with Naji Gabr and her sister, Samia Jazairi.

In 1980, she took part in the series Narrow Paths. In 1982, she played the character of Qamar in a children's series from Jordan called "Qamar of Land and the Sea". This show was made by Qatar TV.

After another short break, Jazairi came back to acting in 1989. She appeared with famous actors Asaad Fedda and Rashid Assaf in the drama series "Warm Hearts". Following this, she performed in the Jordanian series "Valley of the Deer".

Notable Roles

In 1994, Sabah Jazairi made a special appearance in the first part of the drama series "Al-Akho". She played the character of Alia alongside well-known actors Hani Al-Romani and Jamal Suleiman. Her role as Nargis in the historical series "Al-Ababid" in 1996 was highly praised. Many people consider it one of her best performances.

In 1997, she played Sumaya, the wife of Abbad, in the historical fantasy series Death Coming from the East. This series was directed by Najda Anzour. As the year 2000 arrived, she appeared in many new projects. The most famous of these were the drama series "Hanin", where she played Mary, and the comedy series "Time of Silence".

In 2004, she starred in the series "Returning to Haifa". This show was based on a book by the Palestinian writer Ghassan Kanafani. After this, she worked on several other projects. These included the social series "Ishtar", where she played a kind aunt with actress Amal Arafa. Jazairi received excellent reviews for her performance in the series Nizar Qabbani. In this show, she played the mother of the famous poet Nizar. She also acted in the drama series "Rajaha" as Hala.

In 2006, her fame grew even more with her role as Umm Essam in the very popular series "Bab Al Hara". This role made her loved by new and younger audiences across the Arab World. Many of these viewers had not known about Jazairi before.

After the huge success of Bab Al Hara, Jazairi continued to act in many shows. She performed in "People of the Raya" in 2010. She also appeared in the series "Time of Barghout" in 2012. In the same year, she acted in "Tahoun al-Shar" as Fakhriya Khanum. In 2016, she was in "Perfume Al-Sham" as Umm Jameel. She also starred in the social series "Sukkar Wasat" in 2013. In 2015, she was in the series "Waiting for Jasmine", which showed the difficult reality in Syria.

Stage Work

Sabah Jazairi has done a few plays. She performed in the play "Weird" and the comedy play "Kasak Ya Watan". Both of these plays were written by Mohamed Al Maghout. She performed them alongside Duraid Lahham.

Personal Life

Sabah Jazairi is married to Rabah al-Taqi from Lebanon. They have three children: Rasha, Taraf, and Karam. Her daughter Rasha also became an actress for several years. Rasha is married to Amer Majzoub and they have two children.
