Sabat Islambouli facts for kids

Sabat M. Islambouli (born 1867, died 1941) was one of the very first female doctors from Syria. She was also one of the first Kurdish women to become a doctor. Sabat came from a Kurdish-Jewish family. Her name has been spelled in different ways, like Sabat Islambooly, Tabat Islambouly, and Thabat Islambooly.
Becoming a Doctor
Sabat Islambouli traveled to the United States to study medicine. She attended the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania. This was a special college for women who wanted to become doctors. Sabat worked hard and earned her medical degree in 1890. This was a big achievement for a woman from her background at that time.
Life After Graduation
After finishing her studies, Sabat Islambouli is thought to have returned to Damascus, a city in Syria. Later, around 1919, college records suggest she moved to Cairo, Egypt. After this time, the college lost touch with her. Not much is known about what she did after leaving the United States. Sabat Islambouli passed away in 1941.
