Sabaya is a small town located in the Oruro Department of Bolivia. In 2001, about 573 people lived there. Sabaya is important because it is the main administrative center for both the Sabaya Province and the Sabaya Municipality. This means it's where the local government for these areas is located.
Where is Sabaya Located?
Sabaya is found about 200 kilometers (124 miles) southwest of Oruro. Oruro is the capital city of the department. The town sits high up, about 3,698 meters (12,133 feet) above sea level. It is in the valley of the Sabaya River. You can find it on the eastern slopes of a mountain called Pumari, which is about 4,787 meters (15,705 feet) tall.
Nearby Natural Wonders
Sabaya is surrounded by interesting natural features. About 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) southeast of the town is the Salar de Coipasa. This is a large salt flat, like a huge, flat area covered in salt.
Another amazing sight is the stratovolcano Tata Sabaya. This volcano is about 5,430 meters (17,815 feet) high. It is located about 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) southwest of Sabaya.
