The Story of SABECO
How SABECO Began
After the first SABECO shop in Zaragoza became very popular, the company started opening more supermarkets. They focused on big cities across Spain. This helped SABECO grow and reach many more customers.
Joining a Bigger Family
Later on, SABECO became part of a large French retail group called Docks de France. This was a big step for the company. Then, in 1996, another huge company, the Auchan Group, bought Docks de France. This meant SABECO also became part of the Auchan family.
SABECO's Reach in 2006
By 2006, SABECO was quite large. It ran 123 supermarkets and even bigger stores called hypermarkets. It also had 2 special 7 D shops, 11 petrol stations, and about 100 partner stores known as Aro Rojo establishments. Around 6,000 people worked for SABECO at that time.
Becoming Part of Alcampo
In 2016, a new company called Auchan Retail Spain was created. Its goal was to bring together all the different stores that Auchan owned in Spain, like Alcampo hypermarkets and Simply supermarkets.
Then, in 2020, Auchan Retail Spain became part of its own main company in Spain, which was Alcampo. This made Alcampo the main company for the group in Spain.
Finally, on April 1, 2021, Alcampo officially took over Supermarkets Sabeco. This meant that SABECO, as a separate company, became fully integrated into Alcampo.
