Sacaba is a city and a municipality in Bolivia. It is located in the Chapare Province. Sacaba is about 13 kilometers east of Cochabamba. It is the second largest city in the Cochabamba Department.
Sacaba was founded on June 29, 1761. You can still see old buildings from the time after the Spanish ruled Bolivia. However, some of these buildings are not well cared for.
In 2002, Sacaba was a place where people protested against rules about coca plants. These protests led to Evo Morales, a leader of the cocalero movement, losing his position in the Bolivian congress. Morales was against closing a coca market in Sacaba. He later became the president of Bolivia from 2006 to 2019.
