About Saddle Island
Saddle Island is the biggest of several islands in this area. These islands are all part of a special protected place called Class A Reserve 31362. A "Class A Reserve" means the land is set aside for a very important reason, like protecting nature. It cannot be used for other things without special permission.
Other islands that are part of this reserve include Goose Island and the Casurina Islands. Goose Island is located directly south of Saddle Island.
Wildlife on Saddle Island
Saddle Island is an important home for many birds. Two types of seabirds, the flesh-footed shearwater and the little shearwater, live here. These birds use the island as a safe place to build their nests and raise their young. This makes Saddle Island a vital spot for their life cycle and reproduction.
