Sadie Roberts-Joseph (1944 – July 12, 2019) was an American community activist. She worked hard to make her community better. She started the Odell S. Williams Now & Then Museum of African-American History in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2001.

Sadie Roberts-Joseph also created a non-profit group called Community Against Drugs and Violence (CADAV). She helped organize the yearly "Juneteenth Celebration". This event remembers when slavery ended in the Southern United States. She also helped plan an annual Veterans Day event. It honored soldiers from all backgrounds who fought in the Civil War at the Port Hudson National Cemetery.

Early Life and Learning

Sadie Roberts-Joseph was born in 1944. She grew up in Woodville, Mississippi. She was the fifth of twelve children in her family. Her parents were sharecroppers, meaning they farmed land owned by others.

Later, her family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Sadie went to Baton Rouge Vocational-Technical School. She also studied at Southern University. There, she learned about education and speech problems. She spent many years volunteering in the local Black community. She also worked as a certified respiratory therapy technician.

Family and Legacy

Sadie Roberts-Joseph had two children. Her son, Jason Roberts, now helps run the Baton Rouge African American museum. Her daughter, Angela Roberts Machen, works as a commissioner for the Greater Baton Rouge Port. Sadie's brother is a pastor at the New St. Luke Baptist church in Baton Rouge.

Sadie Roberts-Joseph passed away on July 12, 2019. She was 75 years old. Her work continues to inspire many people in her community.
